Tamarine Tanasugarn ( Thai แท ม มา รี น ธน สุ กา ญ จ น์ , pronunciation: [tʰɛːmmaːriːn tʰanáʔsùʔkaːn] , born May 24, 1977 in Los Angeles , United States ) is a Thai tennis player .

Career

Tamarine, who achieved her best results on grass courts, became a professional tennis player in 1994.

She reached her best world ranking position in 2002 with 19. On the WTA Tour she won her first individual title on February 9, 2003 in Hyderabad against Iroda Tulyaganova . The second tournament victory followed in June 2008 in 's-Hertogenbosch , where she defeated Dinara Safina in the final 7: 5 and 6: 3. She defended her title in 2009 with a final win over Yanina Wickmayer .

On October 17, 2010, Tamarine won her fourth individual title on the WTA Tour in Osaka . In the final, she defeated local hero Kimiko Date-Krumm 7: 5, 6: 7, 4 , 6: 1.

In 2011 she had her greatest success in a Grand Slam tournament . In doubles, she stood alongside Marina Eraković from New Zealand, with whom she had won a WTA tournament the year before, in the Wimbledon semi-finals ; they were defeated there by Sabine Lisicki and Samantha Stosur 3: 6, 6: 4, 6: 8.

Tamarine played for the Thai Fed Cup team as early as 1993 . Their Fed Cup balance shows 50 wins and 26 losses.

On April 29, 2015 at the ITF tournament in Gifu ( Japan ) she played her last match on the women's tour.

Since December 2018 she has been playing regularly in doubles again.
