Eleni Daniilidou ( Greek Ελένη Δανιηλίδου , born September 19, 1982 in Chania ) is a Greek tennis player .

Career

Between 2002 and 2007 (with the exception of 2005) she was one of the 50 best players in the WTA world rankings . In Grand Slam tournaments she was three times in the round of 16; At Wimbledon in 2002 she lost 6-1 in the third set against Jennifer Capriati , who was seeded at 3 , at the Australian Open the following year she ended up against the later tournament winner Serena Williams and at the US Open in 2004 she was eliminated with 6-3 in the third set against Shinobu Asagoe . In 2005 she prevailed against Justine Henin in the first round of Wimbledon , with which the Belgian conceded her first defeat after 24 victories in a row.

On the WTA Tour , Daniilidou entered the list of winners five times in singles. She celebrated her first WTA title in 2002 at the lawn tournament in 's-Hertogenbosch . In the same year she was at the Tier II tournament of Costa do Sauípe in the final, which she lost to Anastassija Myskina . Daniilidou also won the Auckland WTA tournament twice (2003, 2004) and the Seoul WTA tournament once (2006). At the start of the 2008 season, she won her last title so far at the Hobart tournament .

At the side of doubles specialist Todd Woodbridge , she celebrated her entry into the final in the mixed competition of the Australian Open in 2003 . In 2006 she moved to the semi-finals of the French Open together with Anabel Medina Garrigues ; they were defeated there by Lisa Raymond and Samantha Stosur 2: 6 and 2: 6.

In 2010 she won an ITF tournament in Athens, where she defeated Anna-Lena Grönefeld in the first round . She also reached the quarter-finals in Linz , where she won her first victory on the WTA Tour in two years; the quarter-final they then lost to Andrea Petković . In 2014 she was at the side of Kristina Barrois once again in the semifinals of a WTA tournament; in Bad Gastein they were defeated by the twin sisters Karolína and Kristýna Plíšková in two smooth sentences.

For the Greek Fed Cup team , for which she first appeared in 1998, she scored 29 wins in 44 games.

Daniilidou played her last professional tournament so far in December 2018 in Solarino .
