Qualification mode

Eight women were invited to the tournament who had to meet the following requirements:

  • For the six best-placed players in the world rankings (as of October 20, 2014) who won at least one of 31 tournaments in the International category (prize money: 250,000 US dollars) of the WTA Tour in 2014 and who did not take part in the 2014 WTA Championships in Singapore , participation was compulsory.
  • The tournament management of Sofia was allowed to award two wildcards to players who had participated in at least one tournament of the WTA Tour in the International category in 2014 and did not play in Singapore until October 9, 2014 . If one of the two players had not accepted the wildcard, the right to start would have been transferred to the two runners-up in the world rankings.
  • If both players, who were nominated as reservists in Singapore, had also qualified for Sofia, they would have been free to play there, even if they had already played in Singapore.
