Klára Koukalová (born February 24, 1982 in Prague , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech tennis player .
Career
In 2001 she reached the final of a WTA tournament in Antwerp for the first time, and in 2005 she won her first two WTA titles in singles. There are also seven individual titles on the ITF Women's Circuit . In 2006, Koukalová was the fourth Czech player to make it into the top 50 alongside Nicole Vaidišová , Lucie Šafářová and Iveta Benešová .
In the Fed Cup game against Thailand in 2006, she became a celebrated person when she paved the way for the Czech Republic to rise to the world group with her win (6: 2, 7: 6) over Montinee Thangpong .
In June 2011 she succeeded in 's-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands, where she had celebrated her first individual title exactly six years earlier to the day, with Barbora Záhlavová-Strýcová her first WTA success in doubles.
In 2012, Koukalová achieved her best result at the French Open , when she was able to advance to the round of 16, in which she had to admit defeat to Maria Sharapova 4-6, 7-6, 2-6 after more than three hours . At the grass tournament in Eastbourne she reached the semifinals, in which she was defeated by Angelique Kerber with 0: 6 and 3: 6. In Wimbledon she reached the third round with victories over Dominika Cibulková and Wolha Hawarzowa , in which she received a clear two-set defeat against Francesca Schiavone .
At the Olympic Games in London, she met Schiavone again in the first round, to whom she lost again, this time in three sets. In Seoul she made it to the quarter-finals in 2012 and was eliminated from Caroline Wozniacki in two straight sets.
At the beginning of 2013 she was in the final in Shenzhen , where she had to admit defeat to Li Na in three sets. After reaching the round of 16 in Hobart, Doha, Indian Wells and Miami, she climbed to 20th place in the WTA world rankings . In July, she won her second title at a WTA in Båstad alongside Anabel Medina Garrigues in doubles -Competition. In singles, she was eliminated there in the semifinals against Serena Williams .
In Brazil, Koukalová won another individual title on the WTA Tour in March 2014 after almost eight and a half years, it was her third and last. The week before, she had already been in the final of the WTA clay court tournament Rio Open , but lost to Kurumi Nara in three sets. In April, after taking part in the final in Katowice at the side of Monica Niculescu , with whom she had already won two WTA tournaments in January 2014, she achieved a new personal best in the double ranking with 34th place, which she was still around in May 2014 could improve three positions.
In 2012 and 2013 - still as Klára Zakopalová - and in 2014 she became German team champion with the TC Blau-Weiss Bocholt .
In September 2016, she ended her tennis career.
Personal
From 2006 to 2010 Klára Koukalová was married to the Czech professional footballer Jan Zakopal. She took on his name with the marriage and was now called Klára Zakopalová. From March 2014 she used her maiden name again.
