The WTA Rio de Janeiro (officially: Rio Open ) was a women's tennis tournament of the WTA Tour , which was held again in February 2014 in the city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil . In 1984 a WTA tournament was held in Rio de Janeiro under the name Santista Textile Open .

In April 2012, the license for the WTA tournament from Memphis to IMX, a joint venture between the EBX Group and IMG, was sold and the tournament was relocated to Rio de Janeiro since the 2014 season. It was held in the Brazilian Jockey Club . As in Memphis, a tournament of the ATP World Tour and the WTA Tour took place in Rio at the same time.
