The Rio Open 2016 was a women's tennis tournament in Rio de Janeiro . The clay court tournament in the International category was part of the WTA Tour 2016 and took place from February 15 to 21, 2016, parallel to the WTA tournament in Dubai , the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2016 (Premier 5 category).

32 players competed in singles and 16 pairs in doubles. The Rio Open was held for the fourth time in 2016.

Qualification for the Rio Open 2016 took place from February 13-14, 2016. Six places were played out in two rounds, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
