The 2016 Volvo Car Open was a women's tennis tournament in Charleston . It was part of the 2016 WTA Tour as a premier category tournament . The tournament took place from April 4 to 10, 2016 at the same time as the Katowice Open 2016 .

The defending champion in singles was Angelique Kerber and in doubles the pairing Martina Hingis / Sania Mirza .

qualification

Qualification for the Volvo Car Open 2016 took place on April 2nd and 3rd, 2016. Eight qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
