Aleksandra Krunić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Александра Крунић ; born March 15, 1993 in Moscow , Russia ) is a Serbian tennis player .
Career
Krunić began playing tennis at the age of seven at Spartak Moscow , where later tennis stars such as Anna Kurnikowa , Anastassija Myskina , Marat Safin , Igor Andreyev and many others also started tennis. During this time she was trained by Edouard Safonov. In 2006 she reached the semifinals of the junior competition of the Kremlin Cup , which she lost to Bulgarian Dalia Zafirova . The following year she won the junior competitions in Podgorica , Livorno and Maia . In 2008 she reached the quarter-finals of the European Junior Championships in Moscow and won the women's junior competition in Budapest . In 2009 she played both the singles and doubles competitions at all Grand Slam tournaments . In April 2009 she achieved her best position in the world junior ranking with position 17. In the same year she was together with Sandra Zaniewska in the junior women double finals of the US Open. Together with Bojana Jovanovski and Doroteja Erić , she took part with the Serbian team at the European Championships organized by the ITF and Tennis Europe .
As a member of Red Star Belgrade , Krunić won the Serbian tennis championships. On July 6th, 2008, she won the Prokuplje tournament as the youngest title winner of the year . In October 2008 she played two ITF tournaments in Dubrovnik .
In July 2009, Krunić won her first ITF title in doubles alongside Ema Polić . In August 2009 she qualified for the ITF tournament in La Marsa , where she lost in the second round to Francesca Mazzali 3: 6, 2: 6. At the tournament in Velenje she won her second ITF individual title. On September 14, Krunić appeared for the first time in the world rankings (position 795), on October 18, she won her third ITF individual title in Dubrovnik .
In January 2010, her fourth ITF individual title followed in Quanzhou . In May she won the single title in Moscow and was in the final of the double competition. Krunić played her first match on the WTA Tour at the Banka Koper Slovenia Open , where she competed alongside Jelena Janković in 2010 and was able to advance to the semi-finals. They defeated Sesil Karatancheva and Anna Tatishvili in the first round 6: 3 and 6: 4 and in the quarter-finals Eleni Daniilidou and Jasmin Wöhr , who were in fourth place, 4: 6, 6: 4, [10: 6]; for the semi-finals against Marija Kondratjewa and Vladimíra Uhlířová they could not compete because of an injury to Janković. Krunić played her first individual on the WTA Tour in 2011 at the Poli-Farbe Budapest Grand Prix .
She celebrated her greatest success so far in 2014 at the US Open , when she played her way through qualification to the second round; there she was defeated by the former world number one Wiktoryja Asaranka just 6: 4, 4: 6 and 4: 6. Only two weeks later she won her first WTA title in Tashkent alongside Kateřina Siniaková from the Czech Republic.
For the play-off games in the Fed Cup against Spain , Krunić was nominated for the first time for the Serbian team by coach Dejan Vraneš . Serbia won the match 4-0 with two wins each for Jelena Janković and Ana Ivanović against Anabel Medina Garrigues and María José Martínez Sánchez . Krunić made his debut on April 25, 2009 in doubles on the side of Ana Jovanović against Nuria Llagostera Vives and Lourdes Domínguez Lino . The Spaniards were leading 6-2, 1-0 when the game was canceled due to rain. In Krunić's Fed Cup record there are eleven wins and seven defeats.
