La Marsa ( Arabic المرسى, DMG el-Marsā ) is a city in northeastern Tunisia , about 18 kilometers northeast of Tunis on the Mediterranean coast. The city has around 36,000 inhabitants, around 78,000 people live in the surrounding delegation of the same name .
Considered by many in the region to be the prettiest of the capital's northern suburbs, it has retained its image as an affluent suburb and remains a popular getaway with local people. The city is only marginally influenced by mass tourism . The name goes back to the Phoenician word "Marsa" for port.
