Evgenija Sergejewna Rodina ( Russian Евгения Сергеевна Родина , English transcription Evgeniya Sergeyevna Rodina ; born February 4, 1989 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) is a Russian tennis player .

Career

Rodina, who prefers hard courts, has been a tennis professional since 2004. She has a brother; her mother Oxana is the coach of the Russian U16 team. Rodina is trained by her husband Denis Shteyngart, with whom she has had a daughter (Anna) since 2012.

She initially competed in ITF tournaments. In 2005 she made her first appearance on the WTA Tour at the tournament in Tashkent , where she reached the quarter-finals straight away. In 2007 she won the junior women's double competition at the Australian Open .

In 2018 she was in the singles round of 16 at Wimbledon , in which she was defeated by Serena Williams ; it was her best result so far in a Grand Slam tournament .

In November 2016 she won the individual title at the WTA Challenger tournament in Taipei (on carpet).
