Ana Konjuh (born December 27, 1997 in Dubrovnik ) is a Croatian tennis player .

Career

Konjuh, who started tennis at the age of five, prefers the hard court . In 2013 she had her breakthrough in the juniors with victories at the Australian Open in singles and doubles and at the US Open in singles.

In February 2013 she played against Belarus for the first time for Croatia in the Fed Cup . She has now played 28 games for the team, of which she won 19.

She won her first ITF title in June 2013 in Montpellier . Although she was still eligible to play in the juniors, from the 2014 season she only wanted to play on the professional tour.

When she took part in a Grand Slam tournament for the first time , in 2014 at the Australian Open , she managed a successful qualifying round with three wins. In the opening round she then lost 2: 6 and 0: 6 to the eventual winner Li Na . At Wimbledon in 2014, she was eliminated in the third round 3: 6, 0: 6 against Caroline Wozniacki .

In June 2015 she won her first title on the WTA Tour at the lawn tournament in Nottingham with a 1: 6, 6: 4, 6: 2 final victory over Monica Niculescu ; with this she achieved a new best world ranking position with 55th place.

At the beginning of 2016 Konjuh reached the second round of the Australian Open , in which she was defeated by Daria Kasatkina 4-6 and 3-6 . In Doha , after victories over Olha Sawtschuk and Kateřina Siniaková in the third round, she lost Caroline Wozniacki in three sets. In San Antonio she was defeated in the quarterfinals by Anna-Lena Friedsam in three sets. After she failed at the French Open in the second round to Dominika Cibulková , she reached the semifinals against Mandy Minella a week later in Bol , which she had to give up due to an injury. Three weeks later in Eastbourne , she had to give up again in the third round. In Wimbledon she reached the second round with a victory over Karin Knapp , in which she was defeated by Agnieszka Radwańska 2: 6, 6: 4 and 7: 9. At the Connecticut Open she was eliminated in the round of 16 with 2: 6 and 2: 6 against Roberta Vinci . At the US Open , Konjuh first defeated Kiki Bertens , Kurumi Nara and Varvara Lepchenko , before moving into the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time with another victory over Agnieszka Radwańska. Against Karolína Plíšková she lost there with 2: 6 and 2: 6. In October she was in the top 50 for the first time in 48th place.

She achieved her best ranking so far in July 2017 with 20th place. After the US Open, however, an elbow operation ended Konjuh's season prematurely and was the beginning of a difficult and protracted regeneration phase.

At the French Open 2018 and at Wimbledon she was eliminated in the first round and since 2019 she has not appeared internationally.
