Mandy Minella (born November 22, 1985 in Esch-sur-Alzette ) is a Luxembourgish tennis player .

Career

Minella, who started tennis at the age of five, has won 17 singles titles and eight doubles titles with changing partners at ITF tournaments .

She took part in the games of the small states of Europe with great success : in 2003 she won the silver medal in singles and gold in doubles. She won further gold medals there in 2005 in singles and doubles, in 2007 in doubles and again in 2009 in singles and doubles.

She had her breakthrough in 2010 at the US Open , when she qualified for the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time . She defeated the top 50 players Polona Hercog and Zwetana Pironkowa before losing to Venus Williams in two sets in the third round .

In 2011, Mandy Minella was voted Luxembourg's Sportswoman of the Year .

On February 23, 2013 she achieved her first tournament victory on the WTA Tour . At the side of Tímea Babos , she won the double-finals in Bogotá . Nine weeks later they won their second joint title in Marrakech .

For the Luxembourg Fed Cup team , Minella has already played 70 games since 2000; she achieved a total of 29 victories (balance: singles 20:15; doubles 9:26).
