The hard court tournament in the Premier category was part of the WTA Tour 2016 and took place from January 4 to 10, 2016, parallel to the WTA tournaments in Shenzhen and Auckland , both tournaments in the International category .

The defending champions were Marija Sharapova in singles and Martina Hingis / Sabine Lisicki in doubles.
