Paolo Giubellino
Paolo Giubellino (born November 9, 1960 in Turin ) is an Italian physicist who deals with ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions and the new phases of matter ( quark-gluon-plasma ) that are generated .
Life
Giubellino studied physics at the University of Turin with a Laureate degree in 1983. In 1984/85 he was a Fulbright Fellow at the University of California, Santa Cruz . In 1985 he worked at the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics ( Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare , INFN) and was most recently Research Director. From 2011 he was professor for heavy ion experiments at CERN (NA 34 at the SPS, NA 50). He has been involved with ALICE since it started in the early 1990s . From 2010 he was spokesman for the ALICE collaboration.
On January 1, 2017, Paolo Giubellino took up the position of the first joint scientific director and spokesman for the management of the two particle accelerator centers Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research in Europe GmbH (FAIR GmbH) and the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung GmbH in Darmstadt . He follows Boris Sharkov at FAIR and Karlheinz Langanke at GSI. Since January 1, 2017, Giubellino has also been professor at the Institute for Nuclear Physics at TU Darmstadt .
