The Huajin Securities WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai in 2016 was one of the WTA material discharged tennis tournament for men as part of the 2016 WTA Tour and the second season ending tournament alongside the WTA Championships in 2016 .

The tournament, which was held for the first time in 2015 as the successor to the WTA Tournament of Champions , took place from November 1 to 6, 2016 in the Chinese city of Zhuhai . The winners were Petra Kvitová in singles and Xu Yifan / Ipek Soylu in doubles.

Prize money and points

The total prize money was $ 2.15 million. In doubles, the prize money mentioned was paid out per team. World ranking points were not awarded in doubles.

qualification

Actually, the eleven players who were 9th to 19th in the tennis world rankings on October 24, 2016 would have qualified for the tournament. Since the second placed Serena Williams did not take part in the WTA Championships , there was a shift to places 10 to 20. Because the players marked in red on the table canceled, the next-ranked players moved up. A wild card was also given to Zhang Shuai . Tímea Babos was nominated as a substitute .

Competition mode

The individual competition was held in four groups of three players each, of which the four group winners qualified directly for the semi-finals. Since Carla Suárez Navarro canceled before her first game, Tímea Babos, who was intended as a substitute, was used from the start.
