The Catholic parish church of St. Bonifaz is on the corner of Killermannstrasse and Roter-Brach-Weg in the western part of Regensburg .

history

The population growth in the west of Regensburg in the post-war period made it necessary to build a new parish center. The parish church built by Kurt and Klaus Oberberger was inaugurated on June 6, 1970 by the then Bishop Rudolf Graber .

In addition to the new Bonifaz Church, the parish of St. Bonifaz - St. Georg includes the church of St. Georg, which was built in the 12th century and was formerly the collegiate church ofChecking Abbey , the church of St. Anna , built in 1488 in the former village ofChecking, and the pilgrimage church of the Assumption, built in 1726 in the district of Dech Betten.

The cylindrical church building made of red-brown exposed brick masonry with a ring structure consisting of a covered walkway was built in 1970 by the Oberberger architects' office. The building complex also includes the parish center, the rectory, the parish home, youth rooms and kindergarten. Inside the sixteen-sided church space with a diameter of 30 meters, the church has a tent roof made of wooden panels with 16 fields. The Marienkapelle contains a Catalan - Romanesque Madonna with the child from the 13th century. Otto Schafarschik from Munich created the ceramic Stations of the Cross . Josef Oberberger from Munich designed the 14 windows . The bell tower with a square floor plan is 21 meters high.

The organ with the company-typical free pipe prospect was built by Josef Zeilhuber , the auxiliary work below is by Reinhard Weise . The organ system is controlled by a mobile, two-manual console with an electric action .

The four bells were cast by Rudolf Perner (Passau) in 1970 .
