West quarter

The west quarter is the city ​​district 15 of Regensburg . The city district is located west of the city ​​center and south of the Danube . With a population of 25,929 (2005) it is the most populous of the 18 districts of Regensburg.

The district consists of the five sub-districts Inner West, Margaretenau-Dörnbergpark, Midwest, Westheim and Outer West .

The western part of the city includes the newer district of Prüfening , which takes its name from the monastery Prüfing and the towns of Großprüfening and Kleinprüfening . The architecture and civil engineering faculties of the Ostbayerischen Technische Hochschule Regensburg are located in the city district, as is the Barmherzige Brüder hospital . The Westenviertel is now a modern residential area, but important industries such as the Infineon chip factory are also located here. The Messerschmitt works were also located here until the Second World War . Leisure facilities such as the Westbad adventure pool and the neighboring Westpark with the so-called Baggerweiher and the Danube bank area along the Schillerwiese , the campsite and the small Roman park at Kornweg 24 with excavation finds are also located in the Westenviertel. Up until the 1960s, there was a horse racing course inChecking . In the east of the district is the Margaretenau and on the edge of the city center are the Herzogspark , the Dörnbergpark and the city ​​park with the Ostdeutsche Galerie .
