Schwabelweis is the urban district 09 of the independent city of Regensburg in the Upper Palatinate district of the Free State of Bavaria .

location

Schwabelweis is located on the left bank of the Danube , on the northeastern outskirts of Regensburg, in the plain between the Danube and Keilstein . The district borders on Weichs to the west, Keilberg to the north and the municipality of Tegernheim to the east , the only border that is not easily recognizable because of the flowing transition. In the south Schwabelweis ends with the Danube. The altitude of the place is 332.4  m above sea level. NN .

history

Schwabelweis has always been a settlement area. Even from the time around the end of the Paleolithic Age , stone tools and other evidence of the inhabitants of that time were found in the caves near the Riegerfelsen on the Keilsteiner slope.

Schwabelweis was first mentioned in a deed of donation from the year 821. In it, three farms in the place SUABILUUIS are bequeathed to the Reichsstift St. Emmeram in Regensburg. These remained in the possession of the imperial monastery until the secularization of 1803 .

The "Schwäbelweis village community" is mentioned for the first time in a court file from 1556.

During the Thirty Years' War , Schwabelweis was the northern bridgehead of a pontoon bridge over the Danube. The bridge was out of range of the artillery of the Swedes who had occupied Regensburg. The bridge was used by Bavarian and Burgundian regiments who had their camps in the neighboring towns of Reinhausen and Barbing to the west . These regiments were used in the course of the siege and recapture of Regensburg on the southern bank of the Danube in the battles for the Swedish fortifications at the Ostentor in Regensburg.

From 1862 Schwabelweis came under the jurisdiction of the newly established Stadtamhof district office . In addition to the actual church village, Schwabelweis included the hamlet Walhallastraße, the wasteland Keilsteiner Keller, Keilsteiner Hang, Tegernheimer Keller and Gut Harthof.

In 1921 the municipal area covered about 480 hectares, 907 inhabitants were counted. When Brandlberg and Keilberg were incorporated into Schwabelweis in 1922, the community area grew to 739 hectares and the number of residents rose to 1618.

On April 1, 1924, Schwabelweis's independence ended when it was incorporated into Regensburg.

Former Walhalla Railway

Schwabelweis was a stop on the narrow-gauge Walhalla Railway between Regensburg and Wörth on the Danube .
