The Armin Wolf Arena in Regensburg is the largest baseball stadium in Germany. It is located in the Baseball Express Park and has been the venue for the Regensburg Legionnaires since 1998 . The stadium has a capacity of 1100 seats and 2000 standing places and was named after the sports reporter Armin Wolf ( Funkhaus Regensburg ).

As an officially recognized Bavarian state baseball center and federal base south , the stadium in the east of Regensburg also houses the selection teams of the Bavarian Association and the national youth team.

Construction phase

On September 8, 1996, the extraordinary general meeting of the Bavarian Baseball and Softball Association decided to award the state performance center to Regensburg. Twelve days later, the Bavarian State Ministry for Education, Culture, Science and Art recognized Regensburg as the official state performance center.

After the early building permit from the city of Regensburg and the Free State of Bavaria, construction began on September 1, 1997.

After a construction period of ten months and a construction cost of 1 million euros, the Armin Wolf Arena was ceremoniously opened on July 21, 1998 as part of the B-European Cup Winners' Cup, which the legionaries were then able to win.

The stadium was rebuilt and expanded to host some games of the 2009 World Baseball Championship in Europe. The foundation stone of the new Armin Wolf Arena was laid on November 13, 2008 by Mayor Hans Schaidinger. The audience capacity has increased from 3,100 to 11,500 seats. New changing rooms and previously non-existent, permanent sanitary facilities were also built. The renovation cost a total of 1.4 million euros.

All additional grandstands were dismantled after the World Cup, only the 1,100 installed seats on the existing seats remained.

Between 2014 and 2016, a building for the Regensburg sports boarding school with practice rooms and a second baseball field were also built on the site.

In 2004 the Regensburg Stadium was also the venue for the European Baseball Championship (B-Pool).

Since the opening of the state performance center on July 21, 1998, cadre measures for the individual Bavarian teams have been carried out regularly in Regensburg.

On February 12, 1999, on the initiative of the German Baseball and Softball Association, the Federal Ministry of the Interior recognized Regensburg as a federal base with the consent of the German Sports Association. Since then, Regensburg has also been home to viewing and training courses for German national teams.

From September 9th to 12th, 2009 one of the World Cup preliminary round groups with the countries USA, Germany, China and Venezuela played in the enlarged stadium to advance to the next round.

The Buchbinder Cup has been held annually in the Armin Wolf Arena since 2010. Four German professional teams play against each other on one weekend. Since July 2010 there has been an open-air cinema event every day in July and August.
