The Rennplatz Regensburg is a former horse racing track in the district of Prüfing in the western part of the city of Regensburg . Today there is a modern residential area and the Rennplatz shopping center in the area of the once remote horse racing track.

geography

At the time it was built at the beginning of the 20th century, the racing course in the west quarter of Regensburg was far outside the city gates. Today the racing course is embedded in urban development in the sub-district Midwest in the western part of the city of Regensburg. The sub-district Midwest, in which the racing course is located, extends from the former horse racing track in the west to the A93 federal motorway in the east. The racing course is located immediately north of the Nuremberg-Regensburg railway line, near the Prüfing train station, on the eastern edge of the Prüfing district.

history

Auditorium

Up until the end of the 19th century, the fields and meadows in the outer western curve of the Danube in the district ofprüfunging were still undeveloped. In 1902, the racecourse was opened west of these fields with the support of Prince Albert von Thurn und Taxis . A railway connection was already in place through the construction of the railway lines in 1873/1874 via the Prüfing station. As a result, the racing course was connected to the tram network, which also promoted the development of the district ofprüfunging.

Until the 1970s, the Regensburg racecourse was an established institution for horse racing and other events. With the migration of the racing club to the community of Sinzing , the era of horse racing in the city of Regensburg ended. As a result, the area was built on in the 1990s and used today. The building structure traces the south side of the former racetrack.
