Karl Bauer (local history researcher)

Karl Bauer (* 1922 in Regensburg ; † October 8, 2002 ) was a German secondary school principal and Regensburg homeland researcher .

Life

Bauer first studied chemistry and physics in Munich. He had to interrupt his studies due to the war . In 1945 he began studying at the teacher training institute in Regensburg and began teaching at the Klarenangerschule. In 1980 he became vice principal, later principal school principal at schools in the Regensburg districts of Prüfing and Königswiesen .

Since 1953 he dealt with the history of Regensburg. In 1954 he published his first local history article in the Mittelbayerische Zeitung . In 1955 he joined the Historical Association for Upper Palatinate and Regensburg .

1962 was first published by the Mittelbayerische Druckerei- und Verlagsgesellschaft Regensburg , a two-part work on Regensburg's art, culture and everyday or moral history, which was later expanded and improved several times and is now known as "The Farmer" as Regensburg's standard work . According to the Battenberg Gietl Verlag website, the total circulation was around 36,000 copies. He completed the 5th edition manuscript in autumn 1996. He collected the corrections and additions to the 6th edition in three handwritten volumes, but could no longer publish them himself.

Together with Hans Scheuerlein he published in 1958 on behalf of BLLV Regensburg the home Atlas Regensburg .

After Karl Bauer's widow Marille died on February 25, 2010, his son Peter Bauer took on a request from the publisher to continue a new edition of the Regensburg standard work.
