The WTA Championships 2011 (also known as the TEB-BNP Paribas WTA Championships - Istanbul 2011 ) were a women's hard court tournament and the most important tennis tournament of the year after the four Grand Slam tournaments . The tournament took place from October 25th to 30th, 2011 in the Sinan Erdem Dome in Istanbul . The WTA Tour tennis championships in women's singles and doubles were held for the first time in Istanbul, after having taken place in Doha , Qatar in the previous years .

The Belgian Kim Clijsters in singles and the Argentine-Italian duo Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta in doubles were the defending champions.

Competition mode

In the round-robin phase (Engl. Round Robin) played four players in two groups, each against all. The top two in each group qualified for the semi-finals, which were played according to the knockout system . The winner of each group played against the second in the other group, the winners played the final.
