The 1987 WTA Championships (also known as the Virginia Slims Championships ) was a WTA indoor carpet court tennis tournament for women held at Madison Square Garden in New York City . It was part of the WTA Tour 1987 and took place from November 16-23, 1987.

Martina Navrátilová in singles and the duo Martina Navrátilová and Pam Shriver in doubles were the defending champions.

In the individual, Steffi Graf won against Gabriela Sabatini 4: 6, 6: 4, 6: 0 and 6: 4. In doubles, the pairing Martina Navrátilová and Pam Shriver won 6-1 and 6-1 against Claudia Kohde-Kilsch / Helena Suková .
