Catarina Lindqvist-Ryan (born June 13, 1963 in Kristinehamn ) is a former Swedish tennis player .

Career

Catarina Lindqvist, who married the American Bill Ryan in 1988 and has had her double name since then, won five individual titles on the WTA Tour in her professional career . In 1984 she defeated the fifteen-year-old Steffi Graf in the Filderstadt final . At the Australian Open in 1987 she made it to the semi-finals. In 1988 she took part in the Olympic Games in Seoul, where she reached the second round. In 1989 she made it to the semi-finals of Wimbledon , in which she was defeated by Martina Navrátilová 6: 7, 2: 6, again a respectable success in a Grand Slam tournament.

From 1981 to 1992 she played 30 games (12:18 wins) for the Swedish Fed Cup team . In the last year of her career she took part in the Olympic Games again in Barcelona , but she was eliminated in the first round. After the US Open, she ended her professional career, but at the turn of the year she competed for the last time at the Hopman Cup .

Lindqvist-Ryan lives in East Brunswick, North America, and is a tennis coach there. From 2005 to 2007 she was the team leader of the Swedish Fed Cup team. Her son Joakim Ryan is a professional ice hockey player.
