This article describes the women's singles at the 1988 US Open . The defending champion was Martina Navrátilová .

Steffi Graf and Gabriela Sabatini contested the final , Graf won in three sets.

For Graf it was the first US Open victory and her sixth Grand Slam title. In addition, she was the second player in the Open Era to win all four Grand Slam tournaments in one year. Margaret Court succeeded before her in 1970 .
