Camille Benjamin is the daughter of Panamanian immigrants whose parents in turn emigrated from Jamaica to Panama. Her father, Carl Benjamin, was a math professor at Bakersfield College.
During her career, Benjamin was able to reach three finals each in singles and doubles on the WTA Tour , of which she was able to win one. At Grand Slam tournaments, her greatest success was reaching the semifinals of the French Open 1984 , where she clearly had to admit defeat to Chris Evert with 0: 6, 0: 6.
Q (qualification), 1R (1st round), 2R (2nd round), 3R (3rd round), AF (round of 16), VF (quarter-finals), HF (semifinals), F (final), S (win) .
1 Until 1985, the Australian were held with only 64 starters. From 1987 the number of participants was increased, which required an additional round in the competition. The laps actually achieved are shown here. Other sources (e.g. the WTA) give a higher number of rounds due to a different counting method (2R corresponds to 64 remaining players, 3R corresponds to 32 remaining players, etc.). In doubles, the increase to more than 32 pairings took place a year later.
