Clare Wood began her professional career in 1984. She won an ITF singles title and a WTA and six ITF doubles titles. In May 1994 she achieved her best ranking in singles with number 77 in the world rankings and in October 1996 with position 59 in doubles. She was temporarily number 1 in British women's tennis. In the Fed Cup , Wood took part in 36 games, winning 34 of their 52 games. In 1998 she ended her career.
After that, Wood continued to campaign for her sport. From 1999 to 2002 she was tournament supervisor on the WTA Tour and then assistant referee at Wimbledon , where she was also responsible for the qualification and youth competitions. She was also assistant referee at the 2004 Olympic tennis tournament . Clare Wood has overseen numerous Fed Cup encounters, including the 2005 final. At the 2012 Olympic Games , she was Competition Manager of the tennis competition .
