After she warmed up in a tracksuit, she went to the match against Pam Shriver in a tight-fitting catsuit . Due to darkness, the match was interrupted at the stand of one set each and White was asked by the referee to continue the game the next day in more appropriate clothing. She lost the crucial third set the next day, but the incident received widespread attention. In a later interview, Anne White said she didn't expect her clothing choices to be so controversial.
