The WTA Championships in 2020 were in the tournament calendar of the ladies after the four Grand Slam tournaments with the highest prize for points and prize money tennis tournament . The hard court tournament of the WTA Tour 2020 should take place from November 1st to 8th, 2020 at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center in the People's Republic of China . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in China , it was canceled on July 23, 2020.

The defending champions were Ashleigh Barty in singles and Kristina Mladenovic and Tímea Babos in doubles.

Competition mode

In the round- robin phase , four players in two groups each played against each other (round robin) . The top two in each group would have qualified for the semi-finals, which should have been played in the knockout system . The winner of each group should have played the final against the second in the other group and the winners of these games.
