Ena Shibahara (born February 12, 1998 in Rancho Palos Verdes , California ) is a Japanese tennis player . Until July 2019 she represented the United States of America , but decided to compete for Japan to better chances of participation in the Olympic Games in 2020 in Tokyo to have.
Career
Shibahara played for the Peninsula High School team during her school days , where she won the CIF Southern Section team championships , the CIF Southern California Regional championships and the individual title of the CIF Southern Section three times in a row from 2013 to 2015 . She was named "Girls Tennis Player of the Year" four times in a row by the online magazine Daily Breeze in the High School Tennis category.
Since 2016 she has played for UCLA in the college team , the powerhouse Bruins .
Shibahara played her first professional tournament in February 2014 at the $ 25,000 tournament in El Rancho , where she lost 3: 6, 6: 1 and 2: 6 to Gabriela Dabrowski in the first round . At the end of September 2015 she was included in the world rankings for the first time. In October 2015, she and her partner Yukina Saigō reached the final of the $ 25,000 tournament in Makinohara , Japan , where they lost 4: 6 and 1: 6 to the pairing Kanae Hisami and Kotomi Takahata .
By winning the junior competition of the USTA National Championships with her partner Jada hard pairing received a wildcard for the main draw in the double at the US Open in 2016 , where she appeared in the first round against the seventh-placed pair Sania Mirza and Barbora Strýcová 3: 6 and 2: 6 documents.
