Hiroko Kuwata ( Japanese 桑田 寛 子 , Kuwata Hiroko; born December 18, 1990 in Yokohama ) is a Japanese tennis player .

Career

Kuwata, who started playing tennis at the age of seven, prefers the hard court according to the ITF profile. So far she has won seven singles and 18 doubles titles on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour . Her best positions in the world rankings to date were achieved in May 2016 with 150th place in the singles and in July 2015 with 112th place in the double ranking.

Kuwata achieved her best result on the WTA Tour at the Citi Open 2014 . After winning qualifications over Sanaz Marand and Stéphanie Dubois , she moved into the main draw of a WTA tournament for the first time in her career. There she defeated Alison Riske before she had to admit defeat to Anastassija Pavlyuchenkova in the second round . In the doubles competition, she and her partner Kurumi Nara lost out in the final against Shūko Aoyama and Gabriela Dabrowski .
