Maria Sakkari ( Greek Μαρία Σάκκαρη , born July 25, 1995 in Athens ) is a Greek tennis player . Her mother Angeliki Kanellopoulou was also a professional tennis player.

Career

Sakkari, who started playing tennis at the age of six, moved to Barcelona when she was 18 , where she found better training conditions. She has been competing on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour since 2010 . In 2012 she played her first qualification on the WTA Tour in Palermo and was eliminated in the second round. In 2014 she won her first four professional titles and reached the final of the $ 25,000 tournament in Torun . The following year she won her first title in the $ 25,000 category in Maribor . Then Sakkari started at the US Open for the first time in the qualification of a Grand Slam tournament and immediately came into the main field, in which she lost to Wang Qiang at the beginning .
