Rybakina, who started playing tennis at the age of five, already had her first successes as a junior. In 2017 she won the renowned Trofeo Bonfiglio and was in the semifinals of the junior competitions of the Australian Open and French Open . At the end of 2017 she achieved her highest position in the junior world rankings with third place .
Rybakina made her debut on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour in 2014 . In 2017 she competed in the Kremlin Cup in her native Moscow for the first time at a tournament of the WTA Tour after she had received a wildcard for the qualification from the organizers . After three wins she immediately qualified for the main field and lost in the first round to Irina-Camelia Begu . At the beginning of 2018 she was allowed to enter the qualification with a wildcard again in St. Petersburg and qualified again for the main round, in which, after winning the second round match against Caroline Garcia , her first against a player from the top 10 in the world rankings, reached the quarter-finals, which she lost to Julia Görges . After winning her first professional title in Kazan , she reached the final of an ITF $ 60,000 tournament in Istanbul before stagnating for the rest of the year. During her first participation in the qualifying round of a Grand Slam tournament at the 2018 US Open , she started, like some Russian tennis players before her, under the Kazakh flag and was eliminated in the second round.
Rybakina's rise in the rankings began in early 2019 when she won an ITF $ 60,000 tournament in Launceston , followed by two other titles in $ 25,000 tournaments in Moscow and Kazan. She then reached the quarter-finals on clay court at the WTA tournament in Istanbul from qualification and was able to play in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at the French Open , but lost to Kateřina Siniaková at the beginning . In 's-Hertogenbosch on grass Rybakina then advanced to her first WTA semi-final before she celebrated her first WTA title in Bucharest after a success in the final against Patricia Maria Țig . She played her second final at the end of the season in Nanchang , but was there against Rebecca Peterson without a chance. By participating in the quarter-finals at a tournament in the Premier 5 category in Wuhan , where she benefited from Simona Halep's injury-related task , she made it into the top 50 for the first time at the end of 2019. In the round of the last eight she had to admit defeat to the eventual winner Aryna Sabalenka and ended the year with another semi-final in Luxembourg .
At the beginning of the year, Rybakina was in brilliant form. After a final victory over Zhang Shuai in Hobart , she won her second WTA title and stood in three other finals in Shenzhen , where she was defeated by Jekaterina Alexandrowa , and then at the two premier tournaments in St. Petersburg until the corona-related break of the season in March and Dubai ; there she lost to Kiki Bertens and Simona Halep. At the Australian Open , she made it into the third round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time and achieved her highest world ranking position in February with 17th place.
