Arnold von Bärenfels , first mentioned in 1371 († February 20, 1414 ), was mayor of Basel .

Life

Arnold von Bärenfels came from the noble family Bärenfels and was the son of Konrad von Bärenfels († March 19, 1373), politician and mayor of Basel. His brothers Werner, Lütold and Adelberg died in the battle of Sempach in 1386 when they were in the army of Leopold III. von Habsburg fought.

Arnold von Bärenfels was a knight and lord of Bärenfels , Steinegg, Arisdorf and Binningen .

In 1377, the Bishop of Basel, Johann von Vienne , together with his brother Lütold, granted him the gift of gift as an inheritance .

From 1384 to 1394 he was banished from Basel because of his support for the Basel counter-bishop Werner Schaler . After his return he was mayor of Basel from 1394 to 1408 as well as 1411 and 1413.

Arnold von Bärenfels was married to Ursula (* 1350; † 1418), a daughter of Henman von Hirzbach. In 1407 she was expelled from the city of Basel as a witch . Their son Arnold III. von Bärenfels was mayor of Basel from 1457 to 1494.
