Tommy Paul (born May 17, 1997 in Voorhees Township , New Jersey ) is an American tennis player .

Life

Personal

Tommy Paul grew up in Greenville , North Carolina after the family moved there when he was three months old. His parents got him excited about playing tennis. Andy Roddick was his tennis idol growing up. He has a brother and a sister.

Career

Paul's greatest success so far is the success at the 2015 French Open for Juniors, where he prevailed against Taylor Harry Fritz in the final . In the same year he was in the junior final of the US Open . Here he was defeated by Fritz in three sentences.

On the professional tour, Paul mainly plays on the ITF Future Tour and ATP Challenger Tour . So far, he has won six individual titles on the Future Tour. He won his first Challenger title in January 2018 in Playford City on the side of Mackenzie McDonald in doubles.

Paul prefers to play on clay, on which he won both the French Open junior title and his four future titles.

It had its premiere at a Grand Slam tournament in 2015 at the US Open , where he lost in three sets to Andreas Seppi . He celebrated his first victory on the ATP World Tour in 2016 in Houston against Paolo Lorenzi .
