Career

In his junior career, Maverick Banes played about 100 matches and achieved his best ranking in the youth world rankings in 2009 with 74th place. Only at the Junior Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne in 2008 and 2010 was he in the main draw thanks to a wildcard .

For the first time regularly with the professionals, Banes played on the third-class ITF Future Tour in 2011 , where he reached his first final this year and finished the year in 698th place in the world rankings in the individual. In 2012 he made his debut on the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour in Burnie , where he received a wildcard from the tournament officials. His first match at this level he won a year later in Melbourne against Stéphane Robert . In 2014 in Adelaide he made it one step further to the quarterfinals. In addition, he won two titles out of four finals in future tournaments and made a small jump to 355th place by the end of the year. In doubles he had already won five titles up to this point, with five more in 2015. In June 2016 after reaching the first Challenger final in Canberra , he achieved his best placement in doubles with rank 236.

After a less successful time in the individual, Banes improved in 2017 and came again in Australia - in Traralgon - to his first Challenger semifinals. Thanks to a ranking within the top 300, the Australian was able to start mainly at Challengers in 2018. After his future titles five to seven - he has won twelve in doubles so far - he won the Challenger in Gwangju, South Korea . In the final he won against the South Korean Nam Ji-sung in three sets. A little later he reached number 216 in the world, his career high.
