Thiago Hernández Alves (born May 22, 1982 in São José do Rio Preto ) is a former Brazilian tennis player .

life and career

Alves is particularly successful on the ATP Challenger Tour . So far he has won seven singles and three in doubles. He made his debut on the ATP World Tour in 2001 in Costa do Sauípe , but retired in the first round. He won his first World Tour-level victory in 2006, when he defeated Tomas Behrend in two sets on the opening round in Newport . In Grand Slam tournaments , he made it into the second round several times.

In the world rankings, his best positions were rank 88 in singles on July 13, 2009 and rank 151 in doubles on October 30, 2006.

In 2008 he was nominated for the first time and so far for the only time for the Brazilian Davis Cup team . He was used in two individual encounters of the world group relegation game against Croatia , but lost both games. Brazil lost the game 4-1.

Thiago Alves played his last tournament in São José do Rio Preto in October 2013 and has not been in the world rankings since October 2014.
