Costa do Sauípe is a tourist resort in the Sauípe district of the Brazilian municipality (Município) Mata de São João . It consists of five hotels and the same number of pousadas . It is located 76 kilometers north of Salvador da Bahia , capital of the state of Bahia , about 1,565 km from Rio de Janeiro .
The resort is surrounded by coconut trees. Almost the entire area of the town is used by hotels and luxury properties. There are five and four-star hotels, a spa center and numerous exclusive shops close to the beach . Gastronomy, pools and sports facilities are geared towards well-to-do customers.
It is tropical and warm all year round with an average air temperature of more than 28 ° C. The water temperature of the South Atlantic is usually 3 ° C lower.
An international ATP tennis tournament was held here between 2001 and 2011 . On December 6, 2013, the group draw for the 2014 FIFA World Cup took place in Costa do Sauípe .
