The 126th US Open 2006 was an international tennis tournament and took place from August 28 to September 10, 2006 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Park in New York , USA .

Roger Federer was able to defend his title successfully, Maria Sharapova won the women’s title, last year's winner Kim Clijsters could not compete. Martin Damm and Leander Paes won the men's doubles, Nathalie Dechy and Wera Swonarjowa won the women's doubles . Martina Navrátilová and Bob Bryan were able to prevail in mixed , Martina Navrátilová ended her active career here.

In the juniors Dušan Lojda won the singles, in the juniors Anastassija Pawljutschenkowa , who was first placed, prevailed against Tamira Paszek . The junior doubles were won by Jamie Hunt and Nathaniel Schnugg, the junior doubles were won by Mihaela Buzarnescu and Raluca Olaru .

In the wheelchair competition, Robin Ammerlaan prevailed against Michael Jeremiasz in three sets in the men's singles, Esther Vergeer in two sets against Sharon Walraven in the women's singles. Robin Ammerlaan and Michael Jeremiasz won the men's doubles in two sets against Shingo Kunieda and Tadeusz Kruszelnicki, while Esther Vergeer and Jiske Griffioen won the women's doubles in two sets against Korie Homan and Maaike Smit.

Juniors

Individual juniors

In the final, Peter Polansky and Dušan Lojda faced each other. Polansky had defeated the American talent Donald Young in the semifinals , Lojda the Croatian Luka Belić. Lojda secured the win in straight sets.

The multiple Canadian junior champion Polansky, who had to pause for several months after an injury in April of that year, was only moved into the main field of the US Open through an exception. On the way to the final, he beat the top seeded Slovak Martin Kližan , among others .

The Czech Lojda came to the US Open as Vice European Junior Champion. There he did not give a single sentence in the entire tournament. The 18-year-old won the US Open title for the first time.

Single juniors

In the final the number one seeded Russian Anastassija Pawljutschenkowa and Tamira Paszek from Austria faced each other. Pavlyuchenkova defeated number eleven on the seeding list in three sentences.

Double juniors

In a purely US American final, Jamie Hunt and Nathaniel Schnugg were able to prevail 6: 3 and 6: 3 against Jarmere Jenkins and Austin Krajicek , who had entered the tournament with a wildcard . The top seeded Roman Jebavý (Czech Republic) and Martin Kližan had already failed in the first round.

Double juniors

The junior pair won the top seeded pair Sharon Fichman (Canada) / Anastassija Pawljutschenkowa (Russia) in three sets against the Americans Chelsey Gullickson and Jamie Hampton .
