Anne Kremer (born October 17, 1975 in Luxembourg ) is a former Luxembourgish tennis player .
Career
In 1995, Kremer reached the main draw of a WTA tournament for the first time in Los Angeles . The following year she qualified for the Wimbledon Championships and was therefore able to take part in the Olympic Games in Atlanta, where she marched in as the flag bearer of her country at the opening ceremony.
She celebrated her first victory over a top ten player in 1997 in Stanford , where she defeated Mary Pierce 3: 6, 6: 1, 6: 4 in round one . Just a year later, she was promoted to the top 100 .
Surprisingly, she beat Arantxa Sánchez Vicario (in Indian Wells ) and Monica Seles ( Eastbourne ) in 1999 before reaching the third round at Wimbledon. Kremer closed the season with a final in Pattaya . She celebrated two tournament victories in 2000 and recorded one success over Nathalie Tauziat . In 2001 she reached the final in Budapest , in 2002 the semi-finals at the Tier II event in Amelia Island .
In spring 2002 she won three wins (in Tokyo, Indian Wells and Miami) over the then top ten player Jelena Dokić . At the beginning of the 2003 season, Kremer injured her left wrist, had to undergo several operations and take a year off. Far behind in the ranking, she fought her way back into the top 100 in 2004 with good results. In summer 2004 she took part in her third Olympic Games in Athens .
In May 2008 she injured her wrist again and was unable to play a professional match for six months.
In 2011 she failed several times in qualifying rounds. She played her best tournament in Kuala Lumpur , where she u. a. Defeat Kimiko Date-Krumm and reach the quarter-finals. In 2013 she played mostly ITF tournaments. In February she was part of the Luxembourg Fed Cup team , which lost in relegation to Hungary and Croatia. Kremer's Fed Cup record (since 1991) in total: 61 wins, 57 defeats.
Kremer, who has not played a professional tournament since September 2013, has not been in the world rankings since the end of 2013. Anne Kremer has been voted Luxembourg's Sportswoman of the Year three times (1993, 1998, 1999). Her younger brother Gilles also plays tennis professionally. He was a member of the Luxembourg Davis Cup team from 1999 to 2007 and also coached his sister for a long time.
