Lessja Viktoriwna Zurenko ( Ukrainian Леся Вікторівна Цуренко ; born May 30, 1989 in Volodymyrez , Ukrainian SSR , USSR ) is a Ukrainian tennis player .

Career

Zurenko began playing tennis at the age of six. When she was 17, she moved to Kiev , where she studied sport (for a teaching post ) for three semesters. In 2007 she became a professional tennis player.

In 2008 she won two singles and three doubles titles on the ITF Women's Circuit . In 2010 she won the ITF tournament in Minsk , followed by other individual titles in Tbilisi, Istanbul and Bratislava in 2011. In doubles, there were three more ITF tournament wins in 2009 and two in 2010.

After she made it to the semi-finals at the WTA tournament in Brisbane at the beginning of 2013, where she was defeated by Anastassja Pavlyuchenkova in three sets, Zurenko was in the top 100 of the world rankings for the first time . By moving into the third round at the subsequent Australian Open , she celebrated her best result in a Grand Slam tournament to date . At the US Open , she made it to the round of 16 for the first time in such a tournament in 2016.

In July 2015 she finally won her first title on the WTA Tour in Istanbul when she defeated Urszula Radwańska in two sets in the final.

In July 2017 it achieved its best ranking to date with 29th place in the individual world rankings. In 2018, she reached the quarter-finals of a women's singles Grand Slam for the first time in her career at the 2018 US Open .

Zurenko has been playing for the Ukrainian Fed Cup team since 2011 . She won ten of her 21 Fed Cup games to date in singles and three of her five doubles.
