Rebecca Marino (born December 16, 1990 in Toronto ) is a Canadian tennis player .

Career

Marino, who started playing tennis when she was ten, preferred hard courts. She has won 11 singles and three doubles titles on the ITF Women's Circuit in her career .

She celebrated her greatest success on the WTA Tour in 2011 when she made it into the final at the indoor tournament in Memphis (International category). In the game against Magdaléna Rybáriková , however, she had to give up after the first set due to an injury. Her best result in a Grand Slam tournament she achieved in 2010 at the US Open , when she reached the second round as a qualifier, in which she lost to Venus Williams 6: 7, 3 , 3: 6.

In 2011 she played five games for the Canadian Fed Cup team , of which she won two.

In February 2013, Marino ended her career. She justified her move with the fact that she could no longer withstand the public pressure of negative comments and the violent hostility in social networks.

In October 2017, she actually wanted to return to the ITF Circuit, but an ITF anti-doping rule prevented that. In her case, this rule was relaxed, so that she was eligible to play on January 20, 2018. At the $ 15,000 ITF tournament in Antalya , which began for her with the qualification on January 27, 2018, she took part in a professional tournament for the first time again, which she won with a final win against Cristina Ene 6: 3 and Won 6-3.
