Leylah Annie Fernandez (born September 6, 2002 in Montreal ) is a Canadian tennis player .

Career

Fernandez started playing tennis at the age of five and, according to the ITF profile, prefers hard and clay courts. She mainly plays on the ITF Women's Circuit , where she has so far won one title in singles and two in doubles.

In the junior singles at the French Open 2018 she reached the semi-finals, in the junior doubles she and her partner Joanne Züger lost in the first round. In the junior singles at Wimbledon she failed in the second round, in the junior doubles she reached the second round with Gabriella Price .

At the Rogers Cup 2018 she received a wildcard for qualification , where she won against Alicja Rosolska in two sets in the first round , but had to admit defeat to Katie Boulter in three sets in the qualifying round and thus her first main draw at a WTA tournament Missed tour .

On June 8, 2019, she won the junior singles of the French Open. In the final, she defeated Emma Navarro 6-3 and 6-2.

On April 20, 2019, she made her debut for the Canadian Fed Cup team .
