The BMW Malaysia Open 2012 is a hard court tennis tournament for women in Kuala Lumpur . As a tournament in the International category, it is part of the WTA Tour 2012 . The tournament will take place from February 24th to March 4th, 2012. In the same week, the Abierto Mexicano Telcel will take place in Acapulco as the international tournament of the WTA Tour 2012 .

Both singles and doubles titles went to Taiwanese tennis players in 2012. In the singles, the unset qualifier Hsieh Su-wei won against the fifth seeded Croatian Petra Martić in three sets with 2: 6, 7: 5, Martić gave up with a score of 4: 1 in the third set. This is the first title win in singles on the WTA Tour for the Taiwanese, who so far could only celebrate successes in doubles on the tour. In doubles, the Taiwanese duo Chang Kai-chen and Chuang Chia-jung prevailed against the Taiwanese-Japanese pairing Chan Hao-ching and Rika Fujiwara in two sets with 7: 5, 6: 4.
