Anne Keothavong (born September 16, 1983 in London ) is a former British tennis player .
Life
Keothavong was born in Hackney , London in 1983 . Her parents fled war-torn Laos in the 1970s . The father, a bank employee, encouraged his children to learn to play tennis at an early age. Anne's brother James Keothavong can be seen as chair referee at tennis tournaments.
Career
Keothavong, who has a powerful forehand from the baseline and a good first serve, prefers to play on hard courts.
She won 20 singles and eight doubles titles at the ITF Women's Circuit . At the Wimbledon Championships , she went to a Grand Slam tournament for the first time in 2000 , but she failed in round two of the qualification. Her best result in such a tournament was then at the US Open in 2008 , when she moved into the third round there.
At the Bank of the West Classic at Stanford , Keothavong suffered a serious left knee injury in 2009 when she hit a net post while attempting a stop ball. The cruciate ligament and meniscus were injured, and she sustained the same injury in her right knee in 2004. After a six-month break, she played her first tennis match in February 2010 in the Fed Cup . As of 2001, she has played a total of 44 Fed Cup games, half of which she was able to win.
On July 24, 2013 Keothavong announced her retirement. At the end of 2013 she wanted to work as a reporter at BT Sport .
From 2017 to 2018 she was the captain of the British Fed Cup team .
