history

The Průhonice area was inhabited as early as the Neolithic Age, as demonstrated by findings from the linear ceramic culture in 1996 in the Komarov settlement.

The place was first mentioned in writing in 1187 in connection with the consecration of the Romanesque church of the Birth of Mary .

The first documented evidence of a castle that was built to the west of the church dates from 1289. Already in 1270 a Zdislav Ulrich Průhonice was reported as burgrave of Prague Castle . The development of the place is now closely linked to that of the Průhonice Castle, as it belonged to his estate. From the 13th century there are also records of the owners of the castle and the village, including Zdislav Průhonice , Bohuslav from Průhonice and Zdislava from Počernice and Průhonic .

Other owners were the lords of Říčany , who built a new castle on a rocky promontory over the stream and expanded the original Romanesque chapel. During their rule over this area, which lasted until the 1390s, the village became very prosperous. The Gothic wall paintings in the local chapel date from this period.

In the 16th century, another owner of the Průhonic estate, knight Zápských von Mat , had the castle expanded into a Renaissance style chateau .

In the 17th century the rule was owned by the influential Reichshofrat Andreas Hannewaldt von Eckersdorf . In the village there was a brewery, village tavern and smithy.

In the course of the Thirty Years' War Průhonice was completely destroyed. The rebuilding began by the owners of the estate, Imperial Councilor Knight Antonius Binago and his son. The next owners, the imperial count Desfours , continued him.

After 1800 the castle was extensively rebuilt by Johann Nepomuk von Nostitz-Rieneck , the brewery was shut down and served as accommodation under the name of "small castle".

According to a survey from 1848, Průhonice consisted of 61 houses with 479 inhabitants and the village of Hole u Průhonic of 23 houses with 135 inhabitants.

In 1872 the first general school was founded in Pruhonice.

Under Count Ernst Emanuel von Silva-Tarouca , an enthusiastic woodworker , the castle park was enlarged to 240 hectares, the previously meandering Botič was regulated for flood protection and over 40 kilometers of roads were laid out.

Today Průhonice is undergoing dynamic development as a municipality on the outskirts of the city of Prague and the seat of a number of large domestic and foreign companies. The location on the motorway provided the basis for a number of commercial areas. The headquarters of the Czech Cave Administration is also located in the village.
