history
Libčice nad Vltavou is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the Czech Republic. The finds show an early settlement in three epochs in the area of the city. In addition to the remains of ancient settlements and burial sites, the remains of a Celtic village were discovered.
The place is first proven in writing in the founding document of the Břevnov monastery from 993. Later the village belonged to the Zbraslav rule and then came to Nelahozeves .
In the 19th century the city received an economic boom through the construction of the Imperial and Royal Northern State Railway from Prague to Lobositz through the Vltava Valley. After the opening of the route in 1850, the character of the village, which was previously dominated by agriculture, changed and Libčice became known for its brick factories and the production of roof tiles and screws. In 1924 the villages Libčice, Chýnov and Letky merged to form the municipality Libčice nad Vltavou, which was elevated to a town in 1948.
