history
The first written reports about a village Kostelní under the patronage of the nunnery of St. George date from the 12th century. In 1253 Wenceslas I left the St. Mauritius Church to the Lords of the Cross with the Red Star . It is believed that the city was founded by Ottokar II Přemysl . In 1304 Wenceslas II donated parts of the Hrzebnicz market , which at that time had two churches, to the Aula Regia Cistercian monastery . By John of Luxembourg , the market in 1335 was awarded a number of privileges.
1732 operated and expanded Charles VI. these rights and granted the right to use a city coat of arms. In the middle of the 18th century, the Romanesque Kreuzherrenkirche St. Mauritius and the Gothic Cistercian Church of the Virgin Mary were demolished and today's baroque church St. Mauritius was built in their place. With the construction of the railway from Prague in 1862, Řevnice developed into a summer retreat for Prague residents due to its location in the Berounka Valley and its proximity to Karlstejn Castle and the Brdywald . In 1869 Řevnice had 675 inhabitants and has been a market town since the end of the 19th century. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the place grew and became a popular place to live. On November 1, 1968, the city was again raised to the rank of town.
