Daniel Hugh Kelly (born August 10, 1952 in Elizabeth , New Jersey ) is an American actor .

Life

Kelly made his acting debut in the 1981 television movie Thin Ice . From 1978 he was seen as Frank Ryan in the soap opera Ryan’s Hope , through which he became known to US television audiences. By 1981 he appeared in 491 episodes of the series. In 1982 he was part of the regular cast of the Chicago Story crime series alongside Maud Adams and Dennis Franz , but only 13 episodes were produced. The following year he starred alongside Dee Wallace in one of the leading roles in the Stephen King film adaptation of Cujo . In 1983 he got alongside Brian Keith one of the leading roles in the television series Hardcastle & McCormick , which also made him internationally known. For the third season of the series, he wrote the script for the episode "A Crazy Story" himself. The series was discontinued in 1986 due to falling ratings. After several years in which he was mainly seen in guest appearances, he received the title role of Noah Beckett in the series Second Noah in 1996 , of which 21 episodes were created in two seasons until 1997. In 1998 he worked in the science fiction film Star Trek: The Uprising . In 2001 Kelly played the lead role of Ben Cartwright in the series Ponderosa , a remake of Bonanza . However, this was canceled after 20 episodes. Numerous series guest appearances and several roles in various films followed. From 2007 to 2009 he appeared as Colonel Winston Mayer in the soap opera Young and Passionate - How Life Works .

Kelly is married and has three children.
