Characteristic

Botič-Milíčov Nature Park, in Prague Křeslice

The Botič flows over a length of 21 km through the urban area of Prague, 1.2 km of which it is piped. This makes it the second longest brook in Prague after the Rokytka (36.2 km / 31.5 km). It is a meandering stream that is passable for water sports enthusiasts from Průhonice when the water level is high. On the banks there are numerous forests with old trees, interrupted by grassy clearings and meadows. The Botič – Milíčov and Hostivař – Záběhlice sections are nature parks .

Although the water is not the cleanest, some animal species live here, including 27 species of fish and amphibians , about 150 species of beetles, 31 species of butterflies and 144 moths. 47 species of birds breed on the banks.

The Botič has its source in the Ovčáry single layer between Křížkový Újezdec and Nebřenice in the Okrouhlík forest. Its source is located at the southwestern foot of the Huntowitz hill (488 m nm) in the Středočeská pahorkatina . The stream flows through Čenětice on its northwestern headwaters and takes in the Oleška stream coming from the south. Its further course leads into the Pražská plošina ( Prague plateau ) past the villages Olešky, Radějovice , Horní Jirčany and under the Prague Ring to Kocanda. From there it flows past Osnice and Zdiměřice in the landscape park of the Průhonice castle through the fish ponds Bořín , Labeška and the Podzámecký rybník ( castle pond ) to the north; at the end of the Bořín are the Průhonické vodopady ( Pruhonitz waterfalls ). The Botič then flows past Průhonice and Hole.

At Újezd , where it is spanned by the D 1 motorway , the Botič reaches the Prague urban area and flows past Koníčkův Mlýn, the Průhonice Dendrological Garden, Horní Křeslice , Štít, Dolní Křeslice, Fantův Mlýn, Dobrá Voda and Petrovice through the Botrovice Nature Park –Milíčov. In a north-westerly direction, the stream at Háje flows into the Hostivař – Záběhlice Nature Park, where it is dammed in the Hostivař reservoir between Háje, Horní Měcholupy , Na Košíku and Hostivař . The meandering stream below the dam as far as the Práče Castle is protected as a natural monument by the PP Meandry Botiče .

Toulčův Dvůr, Práče, Zahradní Město and Záběhlice lie along its course, which now leads to the west. At the weir at the Záběhlice Castle, a ditch is led from the Botič to the Hamerský rybník ( hammer pond ). Then the stream flows between Spořilov II, Dolní Roztyly, Spořilov I, Trnkov and Pod Lesíkem north of Hamerský rybník. At the confluence of the Hamerský rybník ditch, the brook leaves the Hostivař – Záběhlice Nature Park and is bridged by the Prague expressway Jižní spojka ( south connection ) and the railway lines České Velenice – Praha and Praha-Vršovice – Praha-Radotín . The Botič then flows south of Bohdalec between the Michle thermal power station and the Prague gasworks and is crossed again by the Prague-Vršovice-Praha-Radotín railway. His further run leads past Michle and Tyršův Vrch. At Michelský Dvůr the brook turns north, flows past Jezerka to Vršovice , runs behind the Bohemians 1905 Prague grandstand and flows around the Praha-Vršovice station in a large loop. The lower reaches of the Botič finally leads south of the Upper New Town past Gröbovka, Zvonařka, Nusle , Folimanka, Bělka and Pankrác through the Nuselské údolí ; on this section the stream is spanned by the Nuselský most road and underground bridge and two more times by the railway.

From the Ostrčilovo náměstí, the Botič runs underground for the last kilometer at the foot of the Vyšehrad . After 33.4 kilometers, the Botič flows into the Vltava at the Železniční most ( railway bridge ) between Vyšehrad and Výtoň .

Hammer pond

The hammer pond was created in 1770 together with the Záběhlice copper hammer; the old royal fortress Záběhlice was flooded by the pond. In 1962 a dam with an area of about 44 hectares was built near Hostivař , the depth is twelve meters and the length 2.6 kilometers. There are forests on the right side of the reservoir and beaches on the left.
